“[A] deliciously dry, moody essay collection Bolin’s book is a lyrical meditation.” (Carina Chocano, New York Times Book Review) “I love Dead Girls. Bolin’s essays are the perfect blend of criticism, humor, and memoir.

The book made me think about my own fascination with true crime in a way I have never considered before/5(51). Dead Girls is a book of dead girls book with the subtitle Essays on Surviving an American Obsession and rarely have a title and subtitle served a book less well.

Alice Bolin's book opens with an introduction about the fetishization of pretty dead young women and the first essays are fantastic, taking on the way dead girls are used in both fiction and in /5. Dead Girls is a British mystery/thriller.

It is the follow-up to Normal. On netgalley there was no indication that this was book two in a series. Most of the goodreads reviews seem to imply that readers read Dead Girls as a standalone (which I did). But it seems clear that this is /5. Dead Girls begins by exploring the trope of dead women in fiction, and ends by interrogating the more complex dilemma of living women – both the persistent injustices they suffer and the oppression that white women help perpetrate.

The American public seems to be obsessed with murdered women. In her debut essay collection, Dead Girls, Alice Bolin contemplates why popular culture is fascinated by silenced women, while also exploring literature, misogyny, graveyards, the genius and tragedy of Britney Spears and the unglamorous side of the California dream.

In “Dead Girls,” her sharp-eyed book of essays about literature, pop culture and the fantasies they weave for and about dead girls book women, Alice Bolin is. If you haven’t discovered his work yet, The Names of Dead Girls is the place to start. It’s a taut, masterful thriller and a terrific read.

Alafair Burke. Beautifully written with original language and imagery, The Names of Dead Girls is a chilling page-turner/5(11). In this engrossing debut collection of essays, Bolin (Creative Nonfiction/Univ.

of Memphis) looks at two things: America's cultural obsession with dead girls in works of literature and on TV and Los Angeles from the perspective of both a newcomer and a : Alice Bolin. — Carina Chocano, New York Times Book Review “I love Dead Girls. Bolin’s essays are the perfect blend of criticism, humor, and memoir. The book made me think about my own fascination with true crime in a way I have never considered before. This is a book for any mystery/true crime fanatic or even a casual fan.” — Emma Roberts.

“Dead Girls is everything I want in an essay collection: provocative lines of inquiry, macabre humor, blistering intelligence I love this book.” — Carmen Maria Machado, author of Her Body and Other Parties "Bracing and blazingly smart, Alice Bolin's Dead Girls could hardly be more needed or more timely.” — Megan Abbott, Edgar Award-winning author of You Will 4/5(1).

"Poor Little Dead Girls had my heart racing." - Forever Young Adult "Poor Little Dead Girls was a quick, interesting read. The characters have a good voice that will appeal to teen readers, as will the mystery plot with the political overtones.3/5(3).

DEAD GIRLS SOCIETY by The original investigation concluded with most of the evidence pointing to Sal, who was found dead in the woods, apparently by suicide.

Andie’s body was never recovered, and Sal was assumed by most to be guilty of abduction and murder. Unable to ignore the gaps in the case, Pip sets out to prove Sal’s innocence.

Dead Girls Essays on Surviving American Obsession (Book): Bolin, Alice: "A collection of sharp, poignant essays that expertly blends the personal and political in an exploration of American culture through the lens of our obsession with dead women"-- Provided by this collection of sharp, poignant essays, Bolin blends the personal and political in an exploration of American.

The book sends taproots into the “dark, messy stuff” that Abbott links to womanhood—but she is not prompting us, as in a Dead Girl story, to identify with the murder victim. "The Dead Girls" Book Trailer Derek Flynn.
